Archival art print of antique folk oil painting depicting a whimsical ocean scene with boats and sea creatures. Artist: J.O.J. Frost. c. 1922. Oil on board.

J.O.J. Frost was born and raised in Marblehead, Massachusetts, where he grew up surrounded by the maritime history of his hometown. At the age of sixteen, he went to sea for two years before giving up fishing and running a seafood restaurant for the majority of his life. After experiencing a personal tragedy in 1919, Frost began to paint and sculpt as a way to educate the people of Marblehead about their town's history. By 1925, he had created a small museum behind his house to showcase his work.

Why Archival Mounted?

I mostly choose our Archival Mounted printing option for my own use, and here's why.

First, the firm backing means the print can be framed without glass, avoiding bothersome glares! This is especially important for taking photos. Your mounted prints will be ready for Instagram.

Second, mounted prints don't need a frame at all. As long as they have something to lean on—a shelf, a stack of books, a windowsill—they're fine on their own. This lets you move your prints around your house, and easily swap them in and out!
